Best Year Ever!

This year will be my 9th year teaching high school art in Joplin. With this being our 6th year in the new facility after being displaced from the (5/22) storm. Something exciting this year is we have our new principal that is a great addition to our campus. Dr. G has been in the Joplin School district for a long time and he is really helping us kick off this school year with a positive attitude and student focus. Dr. Gilbreth has many catch phrases and one of them we hear often is "Best Year Ever." This phrase has helped our students to focus on making this year the best one yet. His attitude is contagious and we can already can feel the positive change within the school culture.

As we begin a new school year one of my traditions is to update my classroom doors to start the school year off right! This year's door is focusing on the amazing things my students create in the classroom saying "Amazing things happen here." I also have my barn door decorated to match our schools' focus. I had students write their focus for the school year, with the prompt stated "2019-2020 This is my year to...."I am including a couple of my favorite submissions from my classroom. My students really got into this lesson and it allowed them to start off the semester by focusing on setting any goals they want to accomplish. Some students submissions included: work harder be smarter, time management, be outgoing and even the big one of graduate on time. Overall this was a successful start to the school year and a lesson I will add to the rotation.
